As all of us who’ve done a hard day’s work know that having the right tools is priceless. There’s nothing worse than being in the middle of a new carpentry project and then your table saw goes out. Lighting is important as well.
There are often tedious jobs that take too long just because you don’t have very good lighting. I’m sure anyone who has worked on the motor of an old car will agree. You can skin your knuckles and get pretty frustrated but working on old cars is an enjoyable hobby despite those drawbacks.
Recently, a few buddies and I took a three-day trip to San Bernardino National Forest. It’s a beautiful place with lots of backcountry and wilderness areas. There are thousands of acres of wilderness with dozens of hiking trails, freshwater lakes, and campgrounds. The forest’s website has good information about the trails, such as difficulty levels and distance.
There are certain areas with waterfalls and lots of spectacular scenery. There are remarkable geological formations. It seems surreal for spectacular places like this to be so close to cities such as Anaheim.
You can be right in the midst of nature, history, and magnificent solitude within an hour or so.
We arrived at the National Forest early on a Friday and planned to stay till Sunday. We’re experienced campers so we brought all the gear necessary to make our expedition fun but safe. Since I own a tactical gear website, I was well prepared with LED flashlights, a lightweight hunting vest, and the waterproof Voyager dry bag. You never know when you’ll have to cross a creek or bend over to bait a hook and have your phone fall out of your pocket.
I usually bring dry bags for stuff, as well as cell phones … and I always bring extras. Some of the guys will forget this little item, but nobody wants to drop their phone in the river, right? The waterproof cell phone dry bag is a great solution.
You can carry it all day without feeling too weary. It’s easy to reach in there and grab your water bottle anytime you need to. There’s room for food, supplies, gear, a camera, or just about anything you’ll need to make your journey fun, enjoyable, and safe.
I usually carry an LED keychain flashlight with me because you sometimes need just a bit of light and you need it very quickly. These types of flashlights are perfect for that. They’re lightweight and fit easily into your pocket, but you can get them out quickly and have that sliver of light you need to prevent accidents.
We camped near the Mojave River Dam, an earth-filled dry dam that’s 200 feet tall. The Mojave River Basin covers 4,700 square miles. There are ample campgrounds there with the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) nearby. These are long-distance trails for hiking and equestrian use.
The the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountain ranges are within a few hundred miles. The PCT is 2,253 miles long with some spectacular views. You can go from sea level to 13,153 feet so it’s best to know the area and be prepared before starting.
Since we were seasoned campers, we chose a beautiful location that was scenic and offered some fishing along the way. We had a great trip. All the guys enjoyed it so much. We had plenty of light in the evenings after the sun went down. I brought along a couple of different types of tactical flashlights, one with a strobe and all with recharging kits.
After years of being an outdoor person, I can tell you a few stories of times when we didn’t go prepared. We didn’t have the right tactical gear, our tents wouldn’t stay up, the batteries went out on the lights, it rained … all of our campers and hikers have some pretty sweet stories like those.
Though they make wonderful tales that you can tell your friends later on, at the time, it can be quite miserable. Running out of food and water is bad enough but dropping your phone into a canyon can simply ruin your day.
On this trip, we tried to avoid those irritations. We had fun, discussing all the craziness of this past year, wondering what the future might hold. It was good to get away and get out in nature to celebrate just being able to breathe freely and fellowship with good friends. No experience compares with cooking breakfast and coffee over an open flame with mountains and forests as a backdrop.
I hope we can all get back to a normal pace of life soon. Escaping from the busy-ness of life to go explore the wilderness helps. Fishing, hunting, and camping are all wholesome activities that are fun and usually not expensive. Take a trip with friends and family soon; it doesn’t have to belong or far away from home. But be sure to take the right gear with you.
Our tactical gear is used by NASA, Homeland Security, the FBI, and average Joe’s. It does not cost more to own the best. Our gear is eco-friendly. We manufacture batteries that can be recharged over and over. These are much better for the environment. Even our packaging doesn’t need to be thrown away. It can be used for storage instead.
Ecogear FX is committed to providing security professionals, law enforcement, campers, and even homeowners with excellent quality products. We’re dedicated to serving our community and our world. Our customer service is exceptional and we think of our customers like family. We hope you’ll let us know how we can be of service.
