| Description from Backcountry: | ||||||
| The SweetWater Purifier system gives you protection from waterborne
bacteria, parasites, and viruses in an easy-to-use package. The system
is comprised of SweetWater's unrivaled Microfilter with dual-action pump
[CAS0274], a chlorine-based purifier solution called ViralStop that
inactivates viruses [CAS0277], and a Platypus 2-liter bottle that
connects directly to the filter. This is a simple solution for acquiring
great-tasting and safe water in the most heavily trafficked backcountry
areas and in developing countries. This iodine-free system is fast and
easy: Just add 5 drops of ViralStop to each liter of filtered water and
wait 5 minutes. It works quickly in all conditions and meets U.S. EPA
requirements for microbiological water purifiers. Bottom Line: Stay safely hydrated hassle-free with this complete purifying system.
Reviews : I have used the sweetwater on all my hikes and it has filtered everything from clear mt. stream water to swamp water. Never had a failure and haven't caught any bugs (guess that is a good thing) I would highly recommend this unit to any one.
I've used a SweetWater Guardian for about 5 years and have been happy with it overall. Unfortunately,it failed on my last trip due to silty water and over use, I suppose. All the way along, it had been getting harder and harder to pump, with water squirting out the relief valve, as the ceramic filter got dirtier and dirtier. Next, the SiltStopper filters fouled and it began pumping dirty water out. Had to resort to boiling and waiting for it to cool. Am keeping my SweetWater, but am going to try an on-sale KataDyn Hiker for the same cost as new SweetWater filters, plus it offers much high output volume.
From MSR: Get added viral protection in popular wilderness areas and developing
countries with this combination purifier system. The SweetWater
Microfilter removes waterborne bacteria and protozoan parasites, and the
chlorine-based SweetWater Purifier Solution effectively inactivates
viruses.
