Reviews : This review is based only on appearance and not functionality. I had originally purchased the X-Lander, but it looked too big on me (I'm 6'3" 200 lbs) and couldn't fit under a dress shirt (in fact, it was so big, I considered using it as a wall clock!). I ordered the Observer based on another reviewers' recommendation and am very satisfied with my purchase. Its size is more practical and the appearance is more streamlined. I've found it to be accurate in all modes and relatively easy to use once you get use to it. My only complaint is the alarm which is a whisper and definitely won't wake you up- especially after a day of climbing or hiking. Other than that, it's a sharp looking timepiece (go with the stainless steel band) that can be worn in and out of the office. Originally purchased an X-Lander, but it wouldn't fit under any of my shirts or even several of my jackets. Swapped it for a titanium Observer, which is much smaller. Tested the Observer in the copilot's seat of a DH Beaver flying around Mt. McKinley. The compass was surprisingly accurate (with 23 degrees of E declination correction programmed in) even with the cockpit metal and electrical systems, and the altimeter was right on! Very impressive. Only problem with the Observer is readability in lower light conditions. Have had an X-Lander for 3 years and have yet to be disappointed with it. Extremely durable and able to withstand temperature extremes and hard tumbles. Have used it all over the world for daily runs, snowboarding and trekking. The altimeter log is outstanding and records total vert, number of runs and time for 100 outings. Calibration of the compass and setting declination are simple and rapid. If you are seeking a great looking watch that can handle any conditions and provide much relevant information, the X-Lander is an excellent choice.
